Fayetteville City Council Holds Meeting to Discuss City Matters

The Fayetteville City Council met on April 22, 2024, to discuss various matters relevant to the city. The meeting commenced with an invocation by Pastor David Woodhouse and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Mitch Colvin and City Council members.

During the meeting, Mayor Colvin administered the Oath of Office to Ms. Lachelle Pulliam as the new City Attorney. Additionally, Mayor Colvin presented a proclamation for Economic and Community Development Month to Mr. Christopher Cauley, Economic & Community Development Director. A certificate of excellence was also awarded to Ms. Teralyn Harris, a young gospel singer.

Councilmember Mario Benavente announced an upcoming in-person town hall meeting at E.E. Smith High School to discuss the potential construction of a new school.

The City Manager Report included updates on the Public Safety Summit and the Broadell Community Historic Survey. Councilmember D.J. Haire moved to approve the agenda, which was unanimously approved by the City Council.

Various items were addressed during the meeting, including rezoning requests, special permits, and adoption of ordinances related to special revenue funds. Councilmember Benavente moved to approve the Consent Agenda, which was also passed unanimously.

A public hearing was held regarding the Housing and Urban Development Annual Action Plan, which was approved by the Council. An authorization to apply for a Rural Economic Development Grant was also approved during the meeting.

Two administrative reports were presented, including an update on the Broadell Community Historic Survey and a potential text amendment regarding tobacco and hemp retail.

The meeting concluded at 7:12 p.m., with the announcement of the next City Council Regular Meeting scheduled for May 13 at 6:30 p.m.
