FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The City of Fayetteville, in collaboration with Cumberland County Schools, hosted nine summer interns this year.

Each intern had the opportunity to explore their chosen career while gaining hands-on experience. The departments that hosted interns included marketing and communications, IT, finance, Fayetteville Regional Airport, Fayetteville Area System of Transit, human relations, and the city attorney’s office.

The Innovative Career Opportunities Now (ICON) program ran from June 10 through July 19, with high school students working 32 hours per week in various positions throughout the city.

The ICON program began in 2018, with the City of Fayetteville participating last year and this year. The 2024 program culminated in an “ICON Intern Showcase” held on July 24 at Fayetteville Technical Community College.

Learn more about the ICON program and the opportunities it offers career-bound high school students.
