The City of Fayetteville’s baseball team, the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, is celebrating a significant milestone as they mark five years as the City’s official partner with Project Homerun on April 18.

Mayor Mitch Colvin expressed his appreciation for the positive impact the Woodpeckers have had on the community, stating, “The Woodpeckers have had a tremendous positive impact on our community, not just in revitalizing our downtown area, but also with the tax revenue the team generates for our City. This project has helped everyone see how Fayetteville continues to grow and improve and is a wonderful place to live work and recreate.”

Since the inception of the partnership, the Woodpeckers have welcomed over 800,000 fans to Segra Stadium, located in the heart of Fayetteville. With an average of more than 205,000 visitors per season, the team is anticipating their one-millionth fan to pass through the ballpark this summer.

As a single A affiliate of the Houston Astros, the Woodpeckers have made significant contributions to the community, including generating $1.15 million in sales taxes since 2017. The team also engages in various community initiatives such as the Community Leaders Program, a reading program, school tours for students, and numerous mascot and team appearances.

Notable successes on the field include 20 Woodpeckers players who have gone on to make their Major League Baseball debut, with shortstop Jeremy Pena standing out for winning the 2022 ALCS Most Valuable Player and World Series MVP.

The partnership between the Fayetteville Woodpeckers and Project Homerun has not only brought baseball excitement to the city but has also demonstrated the team's commitment to giving back to the community and fostering a strong sense of civic pride.
