The City of Fayetteville’s Solid Waste Department is investing in our community and the goal of reducing illegal dumping through education and prevention. The “Removal And Prevention of Illegal Dumping,” known as RAPID, is a team that was formed in January 2021.

“We hope to see continued success in preventing illegal dumping as we work to place more cameras throughout the city, rotating through different locations.” said RAPID Supervisor Alan Canady.

“The number of illegal dumpsites, as well as illegal dumping cases, has dropped over the last year,” according to Canady. “There is still more that we can all do to prevent illegal dumping in Fayetteville and throughout our area.”

The RAPID team, originally created to remove and prevent illegal dumping, strives to educate residents on how and where to correctly place their waste at the curbside and ensures to follow up with any Solid Waste reported incidents.

The Fayetteville Public Services Department recently issued a $500 fine for the illegal dumping of a mattress which took place near Taft Street. The crime was captured on cameras located near the site and reviewed by the department’s RAPID team.

Informing and educating residents has also attributed to recent successes in the reduction of illegal dumping. These efforts have taken place across all city owned media platforms as well as outreach events in the City.
