Starting February 5, the city council of Fayetteville, N.C. will be adjusting their meeting times. Work sessions, which were previously held at 6 p.m., will now take place at 2 p.m. Regular city council meetings, previously scheduled for 7 p.m., will now begin at 6:30 p.m. These meetings, held in city hall in council chambers, are open to the public.

The decision to adopt the new meeting times was made during the January 8 council meeting, with a vote of 6-4. Council Members Mario Benavente, Lynne Greene, Brenda McNair, and Courtney Banks-McLaughlin were the individuals who voted in opposition.

It is important to note that council work sessions take place on the first Monday of each month, while regular city council meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of every month. These meetings serve different purposes, with official actions being taken during regular meetings, such as passing ordinances, approving budgets, and making policy decisions. Work sessions, on the other hand, allow the city council to review and discuss city business in order to gain consensus on items for future regular council meetings.

For residents who are interested in attending these meetings or staying informed about the agenda, they can find agenda items on the city's website under the city council tab.

In an effort to promote transparency and accessibility, city council meetings and work sessions are broadcast live and available on Spectrum Channel 7 or FayTV.net. The recordings of these meetings are also posted to the city's YouTube Channel, allowing individuals to watch them at their convenience.

With this adjustment in meeting times, the Fayetteville City Council aims to ensure that more residents are able to attend and participate in these important sessions. By making these meetings more accessible, the council hopes to encourage greater community engagement and involvement in local decision-making processes.

In conclusion, the Fayetteville City Council has decided to adopt new meeting times for their work sessions and regular council meetings. This change was made to accommodate the needs of residents and promote greater accessibility and participation in local governance. As the council moves forward with these new meeting times, they remain committed to serving the best interests of the community and making informed decisions that positively impact the city of Fayetteville.
