FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – In light of the forthcoming heavy rains and winds, the Street Maintenance Division of Fayetteville is calling on residents to take proactive measures to ensure the safety of their neighborhoods. The division is urging residents to assist in removing any debris that may obstruct street storm drains and potentially lead to minor road flooding.
"Leaves, pine straw, and other debris around storm drains will prevent proper water flow," said a spokesperson from the Street Maintenance Division. "By taking a few moments to inspect and clear these drains, residents can significantly contribute to flood prevention and safeguard their neighborhoods during heavy rain."
The Street Maintenance Division, which operates under the city's Public Services Department, is responsible for maintaining over 16,000 storm drains throughout the year. However, the division emphasizes the importance of community involvement in keeping the drains clear and functioning effectively.
In addition to clearing storm drains, residents are also advised to securely store their solid waste and recycling rollout carts away from the road to avoid potential damage caused by the inclement weather. This precautionary measure should be taken after collections have been made. It is important to note that solid waste and recycling pickups will continue as scheduled.
To ensure that residents stay informed and receive timely updates about severe weather, evacuations, and protective actions, the city recommends signing up for Cumberland Alerts. This notification system allows Cumberland County's Emergency Services to provide critical information to residents throughout the county. To sign up for Cumberland Alerts, residents can visit CumberlandCountyNC.gov/Alerts.
As the city prepares for the anticipated inclement weather, the cooperation and active participation of residents are crucial in minimizing the potential impact of heavy rain and winds. By taking these simple steps, residents can play a vital role in flood prevention and community safety.
Remember, a small effort from each resident can make a significant difference in ensuring the well-being of the entire community. Stay informed, stay prepared, and stay safe.
