Fayetteville partners with FTCC to offer free General Contractors License Prep Program

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The city of Fayetteville’s Economic and Community Development Department is excited to announce the launch of the General Contractors License Prep Program. This program, in partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College, is designed to provide participants with comprehensive training and test preparation to successfully undertake and pass the NC General Contractors licensing exam.

The city hopes this free program will increase participation in government contracting and create enhanced employment prospects within the city. The program will consist of two full days of classroom training covering essential areas such as building, construction and industrial training, blueprint reading, construction, carpentry, residential building codes, residential and commercial planning, and construction safety.

The city will cover program-related expenses such as supplies, materials, testing fees, legal fees, and credit assistance.

Participants are required to take the NC General Contractor licensing exam within 45 days of completing the test preparation. In addition to taking the exam, participants must commit to retain or create at least one full-time equivalent job, available to a low- to moderate-income person within one year. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the participant reimbursing all program-related expenses.

The cohort size will be limited to 15 participants.

A general contractor training certification can offer a range of benefits, including improved job performance, job opportunities, and a better understanding of industry standards and regulations.

The program will be held at the Fayetteville-Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur and Business Hub, 1073 Murchison Rd., on Jan. 20 and Jan. 27 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be an interest meeting for those interested in joining this cohort on Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville-Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur and Business Hub. To pre-register for the interest meeting and to learn more about the program, please visit FayettevilleNC.gov/GCLP.
