Fayetteville, N.C. - The city of Fayetteville has announced a new initiative aimed at providing comprehensive training and test preparation for individuals seeking to obtain a General Contractors license. In partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC), the city's Economic and Community Development Department has launched the General Contractors License Prep Program.
The program is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to successfully undertake and pass the NC General Contractors licensing exam. By offering this free program, the city hopes to increase participation in government contracting and create enhanced employment prospects within the city.
The General Contractors License Prep Program will consist of two full days of classroom training, covering essential areas such as building, construction and industrial training, blueprint reading, construction carpentry, residential building codes, residential and commercial planning, and construction safety. The city will cover all program-related expenses, including supplies, materials, testing fees, legal fees, and credit assistance.
Participants in the program will be required to take the NC General Contractor licensing exam within 45 days of completing the test preparation. Additionally, they must commit to retaining or creating at least one full-time equivalent job, available to a low- to moderate-income person within one year. Failure to meet these requirements will result in the participant reimbursing all program-related expenses.
To ensure effective instruction and individual attention, the cohort size will be limited to 15 participants. This will allow for a focused and personalized learning experience for each participant.
Obtaining a general contractor training certification can offer a range of benefits, including improved job performance, increased job opportunities, and a better understanding of industry standards and regulations. By completing this program, participants will gain valuable skills that can set them apart in the construction industry.
The General Contractors License Prep Program will be held at the Fayetteville-Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur and Business Hub, located at 1073 Murchison Rd. The program will take place on January 20 and January 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
For those interested in joining the program, an interest meeting will be held on January 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fayetteville-Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur and Business Hub. Pre-registration for the interest meeting is required, and more information about the program can be found at FayettevilleNC.gov/GCLP.
This new initiative between the city of Fayetteville and FTCC is an exciting opportunity for individuals looking to enter or advance in the construction industry. By providing comprehensive training and support, the General Contractors License Prep Program aims to empower participants and create a skilled workforce for the future.
