(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The Fayetteville City Council met Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers to discuss matters relevant to the city in order to Fayetteville forward.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m., followed by the invocation offered by Ms. Marie Catlett, Activities Director, 4th Ward, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter – Day Saints, then the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Mayor Mitch Colvin.
There were several ANNOUNCEMENTS AND RECOGNITIONS made by the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem and Council.
- Mayor Pro Tem Johnny Dawkins stated the City of Fayetteville won the 2023 Southeast Regional Dam Safety Award for its work on the Mirror Lake Dam.
- Council Member Shakeyla Ingram announced the PAL Police Activity League held their third annual cup for youth amateur boxing and it was an amazing turnout. There will be a community meeting on Thursday September 28 at 421 Maiden Lane 6-830 pm or community updates.
- Council Member Mario Benavente wished everyone a happy Yom Kippur.
- Council Member D.J. Haire presented to members of his family the proclamation for the celebration of life of Former Council Member Curtis Worthy.
- Council Member Brenda McNair presented a proclamation to Mr. Jonathan Martin recognizing him for his work and dedication to the Mountain Bike Trail.
- Mayor Mitch Colvin presented a proclamation in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month to Ms. Claudia Zomora, El Centro Hispano Community Coordinator.
- Mayor Mitch Colvin presented the Key to the City to Saint Avold Mayor Monsieur Rene Steiner, Deputy Mayor Madame Raymonde Schwitzer, and Historian Monsieur Pascal Flaus, in honor of the City of Saint Avold and in celebration of the 30-year anniversary of Fayetteville and Saint Avold being Sister Cities.
A motion was made to Approve the Agenda by Council Member Shakeyla Ingram moved to approve the agenda with the addition of Item 7.015 - Receive Corrected Information and Uphold the Adoption of Budget Ordinance Amendment 2024-1 Previously Adopted by Council on Sept.11, 2023, and move items 9.01, 9.02, 9.03 to the October Work Session. Seconded by Council Member Deno Hondros, the motion was approved unanimously.
The City Council acted on 15 CONSENT AGENDA items during this meeting. The Consent Agenda is a group of items that are considered routine whereby all items are passed with a single motion and vote. Members of City Council can remove items from the Consent Agenda for further discussion prior to voting. A motion was made by Council Member Deno Hondros to approve consent agenda. Seconded by Council Haire, it was approved unanimously.
