Update to Pedestrian Struck/Traffic Fatality | CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT: (faypd.com)
City of Fayetteville Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 10.
Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit have identified the individuals involved in the vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality at the intersection of Owen Drive and Boone Trail on Monday, January 9, 2023.
The pedestrian has been identified as Eric Desean Jones (Black male, 26 years of age), of the 2000 block of Rustic Trail. Mr. Jones was transported to Cape Fear Valley in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries. Next of kin has been notified.
Nathan Echols (White male, 35 years of age), of the 2000 block of Stornoway Court was operating a 2013 GMC Terrain SUV at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash and the events leading up to it remain under investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Update to Pedestrian Struck/Road Opened
All lanes of travel on Owen Drive are now open.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the pedestrian appeared to have been stumbling in the roadway and stepped back off of the median into oncoming traffic and was struck. The pedestrian remains at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition.
