CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT: Update to Pedestrian Struck/Road Opened

City of Fayetteville Police Department issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.

All lanes of travel on Murchison Road from Cumberland Street to Blue Street are now open.  

The preliminary investigation has revealed the pedestrian stepped onto the roadway into oncoming traffic and was struck. The identities of those involved are being withheld as the investigation is currently active. The pedestrian is currently at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition. 

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.  

On November 19, 2022, at 11:45 AM, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department were dispatched to a pedestrian involved traffic accident near the intersection of Murchison Road and Blue Street. 

The pedestrian is being transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in critical condition. The vehicle and driver involved remained on the scene. The identities of those involved are being withheld as the investigation is currently active. 

All lanes of Murchison Road from Cumberland Street towards Blue Street are closed while members of the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit investigate the crash. Motorists will need to use an alternate route. 

The cause and events leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
