City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Mar. 28.
The public can help shape the future of the Murchison corridor and submit transformation ideas on April 5.
City of Fayetteville Economic and Community Development team members and key community partners in the Murchison Choice Neighborhood Planning project will listen to residents, answer questions and take note of feedback on April 5 at the Rudolph Jones Student Center at Fayetteville State University from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
During the public event, participants can express thoughts and ideas about future housing in the area. From the outset, the Choice framework has been about community-driven, community-oriented solutions. Neighborhood residents, business owners and those who have an interest in the future growth of Murchison Road are encouraged to provide input.
Community feedback is a critical for each step toward the Choice Neighborhood large-scale transformation. During the April 5 session, neighbors will be asked to rank ideas for the Murchison Choice revitalization plan including needs for housing, retail businesses, food stores and restaurants and other services. In addition to City staff, Fayetteville State University representatives will be available to discuss the university’s Master Plan which defines and outlines its future growth impacting the area.
The expo-style, interactive event is focused on gathering feedback through engagement. Three little libraries, an early action project for the Murchison Townhouses, will be on display during the April 5 gathering. For children and families, new Murchison Community coloring books will be available at no cost. There will also be free snacks and participants will have a chance to win raffle prizes.
In December 2020, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the City of Fayetteville and Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority (FMHA) a $450,000 grant to revitalize Murchison Road between Rowan Street and Pamalee Drive/Country Club Drive. The City and FMHA plan to apply for a competitive $50 million federal grant to implement plans identified for the Murchison Corridor through the Choice planning process.
