City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Mar. 21.
On Monday, March 28, the Fayetteville City Council will return to their seats at the dais in updated Council Chambers at City Hall.
The re-opening of Council Chambers comes after the first renovation to the space in nearly three decades aimed at improving resident access to City operations with improved technology and enhanced safety measures. New digital and video equipment will improve the experience for participants both in-person and at home. The update also creates a flexible space reconfigurable for holding a variety of meetings and events and socially distancing when necessary.
Restroom facilities on the first floor have also been modernized and are fully accessible.
While the Council Chambers are reopening, construction will continue on the first-floor lobby and operational spaces. When complete, they will facilitate an improved customer experience for individuals conducting business at City Hall. Benefits of this project include a new customer service area, open office where staff and public interact, a customer service window and new security measures.
Until all renovations are complete, visitors should continue to access City Hall through the Pittman Street entrance at the rear of the building during business hours. To access Council meetings, the public should enter through the City Hall front entrance security screening point on Hay Street.
Increased security measures are being implemented to make City facilities safer for employees and visitors. Therefore, all who are attending meetings in Council Chambers entering through the front doors will be required to go through a screening point utilizing metal detection devices and an x-ray machine for handheld personal belongings and packages. The City of Fayetteville has recently enacted a City ordinance Part II, Chapter 17, Sec. 17-4 that in most cases prohibits the possession of weapons including firearms on all City properties.
To promote maximum access to the public, Council meetings will be available for in-person attendance, to room capacity, and will also continue to be broadcast live via Zoom, FayTV and YouTube. For more information about the Fayetteville City Council, please visit fayettevillenc.gov/city-council.
