CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE: Fire Department Begins Annual Fire Hydrant Painting

Hydrantpaint

City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Mar. 10.

The Fayetteville Fire Department recently began its semi-annual fire hydrant servicing that includes placing a fresh coat of paint to ensure clear visibility. Typically conducted later in the year, it was moved to early March to get ahead of the anticipated rising fuel prices.

Focused on maintaining excellence in service, this process also provides an opportunity for firefighters to enhance skills such as:

  • Identify Fire Hydrant Locations – maintaining that mental inventory of each fire hydrant location in their respective districts
  • Driver Operator – incorporates training for new apparatus drivers
  • Street Familiarization – new and existing drivers can brush up on streets they may not visit frequently
  • Target Hazards – identifying target hazard buildings in their response zone
  • Community Outreach – engaging residents, assisting with questions, installing smoke alarms and providing public education material
Residents may see a fire engine, small squad or even the ladder truck in your area painting fire hydrants over the next couple of weeks. Don’t hesitate to stop and visit with them if you have any questions regarding fire department operations or fire safety.
