Fayetteville Fire Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 9.
Fayetteville Firefighters save lives and City leaders want you to access the Department’s latest report. Also, this is an invitation to participate in upcoming outreach events. Fire Chief Mike Hill and staff presented the department’s quarterly report to the City Council on February 28. The Annual report, available online, includes core values, goals, 2021 service statistics, types of calls and a breakdown of the busiest days of the week, hours of the day and the busiest station.
“This report sums up a year's worth of hard work and dedication of an amazing staff,” Chief Hill said. “Our Firefighters impress me more and more every day.”
Chief Hill and staff also revealed the design for Fire Station Four which will be located at Bragg Boulevard and Villagio Place. Construction will begin this Summer. Below are other notable Department updates:
New patches, uniforms and cancer prevention initiatives
Firefighters will receive new uniforms in the coming weeks. The uniforms are for everyday wear and feature the department’s new patch. The patch, shaped like a shield to represent the duty to protect the City from all hazards, was designed in-house by Fire staff members. The colors are symbolic: Gold (honor of serving the City), Black (to honor those lost in the line of duty), and White (commitment to serving with respect and integrity).
Fire Department leaders support cancer prevention initiatives to address industry safety and recruitment concerns. All 17 fire stations have new gear extractors which allows for immediate removal of carcinogens and other toxins upon returning from fires.
Community outreach
Youth can achieve their fire service dreams through an innovative pathway. High school students can apply for the June 2022 CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) Teen Academy by calling (910) 433-1413 or emailing Capefearcert@gmail.com. The Fayetteville Fire Department also supports the Fire Academy at E.E. Smith High School with five graduates beginning their career with the department over the last five years.
The department has three Fire Life Safety Educators (FLSE) who work to reduce risks in the community. Residents can invite the FLSE team to do educational presentations at churches, businesses, schools and neighborhood watch meetings. The team will also oversee Sparky the Fire Dog’s Birthday Bash on March 19, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Seabrook Park, 708 Langdon Street. The educational event is free and open to the public with car seat checks and activities for kids.
