City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Feb. 25.
The East Coast Greenway now includes two new parts of Fayetteville’s trail system. The Cape Fear River Trail Part C and Linear Park Connector Trail, are designated parts of the East Coast Greenway. The Greenway is a developing walking and biking route that spans 3,000 miles from Maine to Florida. These new segments were among 18 added to the East Coast Greenway route in 2021 across eight states and Washington, D.C. "These additions to Fayetteville’s trail network are key segments of the growing East Coast Greenway in North Carolina,” East Coast Greenway Alliance North Carolina Coordinator Andrew Meeker said. “These infrastructure investments will benefit residents and visitors alike, and we are grateful for the continued support of our partners with the City of Fayetteville.”
“We are excited that our new trail features are included in this unique outdoor experience,” Fayetteville Mayor Mitch Colvin said. “Residents and visitors can immerse themselves in Fayetteville’s beautiful natural environment and then they can go further. You can see our City, its greenery and you can meet new people and travel up and down the East Coast. It’s an American treasure to add to your bucket list.”
In North Carolina, the East Coast Greenway features a 365-mile spine route and a 425-mile complementary coastal route. In 2021, the Greenway was designated as a unit of the North Carolina State Parks system and an official North Carolina State Trail.
Over the past year, Fayetteville City leaders worked with the East Coast Greenway Alliance and Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to reroute existing sections of the East Coast Greenway throughout Fayetteville city limits. This reroute added nearly a mile of off-road trail to the East Coast Greenway network and eliminated the need for cyclists to operate alongside motorists on Ramsey Street. Sections of trail built by the City of Fayetteville, including a popular segment of the Cape Fear River Trail from Jordan Soccer Complex to Clark Park, have been incorporated into the East Coast Greenway route for years.
In partnership with cities like Fayetteville, the East Coast Greenway is designed to transform the 15 states and 450 communities it connects through active and healthy lifestyles, sustainable and equitable transportation, community engagement, climate resilience, active tourism and more.
