City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Feb. 24.
Registration is still open for youth up to age 17 to participate in Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation (FCPR) Spring Athletics. Interested individuals and families can sign up through Tuesday, March 1.
Programs available include indoor soccer, baseball, softball, rugby, lacrosse and track.
The Buddy Sports Baseball program is also registering for individuals up to age 21. Registration for Adult Softball for ages 18 and older also continues through Mar. 1. Click here to visit the registration web page. Late registrations—those after March 1—will only be accepted for participation on a space-available basis.
More than 900 Fayetteville and Cumberland County athletes are already registered for Spring 2022 athletics.
“Athletics can provide so many mental, physical and social rewards,” FCPR Director Michael Gibson said. “Recreational athletes can go on to excel at collegiate or professional levels, but they also live and work here. FCPR athletes and coaches demonstrate sportsmanship and fitness is a priority. The outcomes are priceless and can translate to a connected and active community achieving sport and societal goals.”
Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer coach or paid scorekeeper can call their local recreation center and ask how to get involved. Locations and contacts are listed online.
Providing opportunities for recreational activities and involvement are a priority for FCPR, and athletes, spectators and visitors will soon enjoy more amenities. Improvements are in store for several facilities and programs throughout Fayetteville and Cumberland County to enhance residents’ quality of life.
New lights and parking upgrades have already been completed at Jordan Soccer Complex, while plans for the voter-approved Tennis Center at Mazarick Park are moving forward toward construction. Renovations are also expected to be completed this year at the Dorothy Gilmore Recreation Center to enhance community services. This summer, FCPR is looking forward to reopening the Lake Rim Aquatic Center not far from the site of the new Bill Crisp Senior Center.
Also on the horizon is the development of the sports complex in partnership with Fort Bragg. Each of these initiatives and projects has been carefully selected with the ultimate goal of making Fayetteville and Cumberland County a desirable place to live, work and play for residents of all ages.
Gibson adds, “Over the next few years, we will see changes that should attract more tournaments, visitors and participants It’s really an exciting time be in Fayetteville-Cumberland County.”
