City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Jan. 17.
Fayetteville residents, business owners, visitors and downtown stakeholders are encouraged to share their visions for a new downtown footprint. Participants, who can choose to attend in person or via Zoom, will be able to brainstorm along with City staff members at the Jan. 20 Downtown Community meeting. A link to join is below this message.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at The Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County, 301 Hay Street. Anyone attending in person is required to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
The Downtown Urban Design Plan looks to expand the downtown feel beyond Hay Street and its intersections. The difference would be a district experience versus a main street. Development Services staff will use the Downtown Urban Design Plan to create new guidance for streetscapes, buildings, residences, parking and more. In the future, people should feel more engaged with streetside surroundings and inspired to stay and explore.
Phase I of the Downtown Urban Design Plan implementation includes a community meeting and proposed changes to the downtown footprint. City Planners are excited about this process and believe community conversations will help with the transformation and growth of the area.
Downtown district footprint proposals can be viewed online.
