Taxpic

County of Cumberland issued the following announcement on Jan. 15.

Cumberland County Tax Administration reminds citizens about several tax relief programs offered to qualified property owners.

The Present Use Deferment Program is for owners of qualifying agricultural, horticultural, forestry and wildlife conservation properties, which may be assessed at the value of the property in its present use, versus market value. Each parcel must meet specific requirements to include minimum production acreage and income; a sound management plan; and qualifying ownership. Taxes in all present use programs are deferred, not exempted, and are a lien on the property. Applications for 2022 must be submitted during the annual listing period, from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31, 2022.

The Elderly or Disabled Exclusion Program excludes from taxation the greater of the first $25,000, or 50% of the assessed value on the permanent residence of a qualifying homeowner. Applicants must be at least 65 years of age, or totally and permanently disabled, with a combined 2021 income of $31,900 or less for both applicant and spouse.

The Disabled Veteran Exclusion Program excludes from taxation the first $45,000 of assessed value on the permanent residence of a qualified disabled veteran or their unmarried, surviving spouse. There is no age or income limitation on this program.

The deadline to submit an application for these exclusion programs is June 1, 2022.
