CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE: Cross Creek Bank Stabilization complete; Linear Park Trail Repaired

News

City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Aug. 10.

The Cross Creek Bank Stabilization Project is complete. Barricades were removed and people can now walk or bike the rebuilt section of Linear Park Trail. The stabilized bank now features a fence. Plants will be installed on the bank by the end of the month.

Hurricane Matthew damaged the bank near 280 Lamon Street on October 8, 2016. A section of Linear Park Trail was washed away behind the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Administration Building. When Hurricane Florence hit in September 2018, bank erosion worsened and extended further downstream, into Cross Creek Cemetery property. Fortunately, the bank stabilization project did not disturb any graves.

The total estimated cost of the project is $7,764,959.96. Money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Catalogue of Federal Domestic Assistance Program) will cover costs.

A timeline of the project and construction photos are posted online:
