CUMBERLAND COUNTY: Face Coverings Required in County Buildings

Covid1000x667

Cumberland County issued the following announcement on July 23.

With a few exceptions, Cumberland County government offices remain closed to the public due to COVID-19 precautions. Departments are assisting citizens over the phone and through email and online services. Some departments, which include Public Health, Animal Control, Community Development and Veterans Services, are scheduling in-person appointments with citizens.

Residents who have in-person appointments with County departments are required to wear face coverings to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and protect other people, including employees.

Face coverings have been required at the Judge E. Maurice Braswell Cumberland County Courthouse since May 4 by an administrative order by the Chief District Court Judge and Senior Resident Superior Court Judge.

County employees have been required to wear face coverings in the workplace since June 29. Face coverings are required during any in-person customer contact; in hallways and other public areas; and in work sections where social distancing of 6 feet cannot be achieved.

While N.C. Executive Order No. 147 does not mandate face coverings for local government buildings, it strongly encourages local governments to adopt similar face covering policies.

“One of the most basic roles of local government is to serve the public, and we cannot accomplish that without protecting ourselves and each other,” said County Manager Amy Cannon. “Wearing a face covering is a simple way to limit possible exposure and the spread of COVID-19.”

Information on operational changes for County departments is available http://www.co.cumberland.nc.us/covid19closures and listed on the individual departmental webpages.
