City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on June 25.
Mayor Mitch Colvin has directed the creation of two council-led committees to review policies as they relate to the Healing and Reconciliation Movement. Councilmember Tisha Waddell, focusing on policies and procedures internal to the city’s operations, will head the internal review committee, both as they relate to racial inequalities. Councilmember Larry Wright, focusing on the city’s outward facing policies and procedures, will head the external review committee. The committee chairs will propose mission statements for each committee during the August 3 work session. Colvin and Mayor Pro Tem Kathy Jensen will also serve as co-chairs on both committees.
“It’s my intent that we take a hard look at what we do from both an internal and external perspective at the city level,” said Colvin. “With our 1600+ employees and the outward facing departments; police, fire, parks & recreation, and others, there is a lot of personal interaction amongst employees and with our citizens. It is important that we ensure our policies, and most importantly, our actions, reflect equality and fairness for all.”
