TOWN OF HOPE MILLS: Message from the Town Manager addressing the Coronavirus

Coranovirus11

Town of Hope Mills issued the following announcement on Mar. 12.

MEMORANDUM

TO:                 Town staff and residents

FROM:           Melissa P. Adams, Town Manager

 DATE:             March 12, 2020

SUBJECT:      A message to residents about the Coronavirus

I would like to take the time to address the concern about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the steps we are taking in our offices and recreational facilities to keep our staff and residents safe and healthy.  The safety of the Town staff and the community is always our top priority.

We are closely monitoring the situation and following guidance from our Town Safety Director, County public health officials and fellow government agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, so we can communicate the risk to the community and make ongoing assessments as the situation unfolds.  Employee care is extremely important to us.  We have provided new heath protocols and information for Town employees per our Safety Director and fact sheets from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services have been posted in all working areas. We continue to be flexible and continue to focus on prevention, encouraging any Town staff member to stay at home if they are not feeling well.  Especially if they are displaying flu-like symptoms.  We have a generous shared sick leave policy; no employee will be unpaid due to illness.

In addition to our routine cleaning procedures, increased sanitation measures are being added to all Town offices with extra attention to heavily frequented buildings such as the Parks & Recreations Center. Additionally, we have requested that coaches and young athletes avoid contact by hand shake.  No official closures or cancellations are to be reported at this time.

Please practice the following steps to protect yourself and others:

Wash hands frequently with soap and water, and for at least 20 seconds each time.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact with people who are ill.

Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.  If you do not have a tissue readily available, sneeze into the crook of your arm versus your hand.

Do not reuse tissue after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose.

Clean and disinfect surfaces that are frequently touched.
