City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Aug. 25.
City of Fayetteville and Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority (FMHA) staff members want to improve access to Murchison Choice Neighborhood Plan meetings. Today, staff members will distribute laptops to people who live at the target site, Murchison Townhouses, Rosemary Street. Community meetings have moved online due to the spread of COVID. Laptops are meant to help residents who do not have internet access.
Today, staff members will go door-to-door at 3 p.m. to distribute one laptop per household for access to the 5:30 p.m. online Choice Neighborhood Plan Meeting. Staff members will wear City of Fayetteville badges and white shirts with the Murchison Choice Neighborhood logo. Meeting details are posted online at https://murchisonchoice.com/. Click the “CM2” tab. Call (910) 433-1590 with questions prior to the meeting. Cumberland County Schools will provide free Wi-Fi for participants for the duration of the meeting.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded a $450,000 grant to the City and FMHA in December 2020. The grant is for a community-led plan to transform the area of Murchison Road between Rowan Street and Pamalee Drive/Country Club Drive. Eventually, the City and FMHA will apply for a $30 million federal grant with the goal of a large-scale transformation of the Murchison Road Corridor.
