In response to dangerously high temperatures this week, Cumberland County has opened selected buildings as cooling stations for residents who do not have access to air conditioning.
The National Weather Service predicts high heat and humidity for the remainder of this week. Starting Wednesdays, July 20, heat index values may reach the low 100s each day. The heat index will peak at 107degree on Thursday.
The Department of Social Services, located at 1225 Ramsey St. has opened the auxiliary looby as a cooling station. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The first-floor lobby of the Cumberland County Department of Public Health, located at 1235Ramsey St is open from 8 am to 5 pm.
All eight Cumberland County Public Libraries are open as cooling stations. Open on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9 am to pm, and Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday are open from 9 am to 6 pm.
The 18 Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Centers are open to the public, year-round, during normal operating hours and can be used by residents seeking relief from the heat.
