The Fayetteville City Council convened on May 6, 2024, for their monthly work session. The meeting took place at the City Hall Council Chambers and was called to order by Mayor Mitch Colvin at 2 p.m.
During the session, the council discussed a range of issues pertinent to the city's strategic plan. The agenda for the meeting was approved with a unanimous vote (10-0), with item 4.08 being moved up to be heard before item 4.07.
Several significant items were presented and discussed during the meeting:
The Police Attorney presented Crime Deterrent Opportunities in Partnership with Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority (FMHA). This initiative explores ways that the city could require FMHA to monitor crime and implement stipulations if they receive government funding.
Development Services presented a Text Amendment to Chapter 30 regarding a Tobacco and Hemp Retail Update. The council directed staff to include additional definitions and present them to the Planning Commission for review.
The City Attorney’s Office delivered a presentation about an Improper Towing Ordinance Amendment, which aims to update the current City Code, Section 24-249.
Development Services facilitated a discussion concerning Storage or Parking of Heavy Trucks, Trailers, and Recreation Equipment Update.
The Public Services Department presented updates on both the Fayetteville Comprehensive Transportation Plan and Supplemental Fayetteville Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan Study.
The Stormwater Division presented two Watershed Master Plans - one for Little Rockfish Creek 1 and Bones Creek watershed studies, and another for Cross Creek.
Assistant City Managers Jeff Yates and Adam Lindsay respectively presented the 2024 Financial Update to Council and an Amendment to Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Operating Agreement.
The Economic and Community Development Department presented several items including Day Resource Center Operator Selection, Down Payment Assistance Program Expansion - Homebuying HERO, and facilitated a Discussion Regarding Recruitment of Amusement and Attractions.
Mayor Colvin acknowledged that Fayetteville has won the All-American City award more times than any other municipality in North Carolina and requested a proposal for banners to be displayed in the city.
The work session adjourned at 6:32 p.m. and reconvened at 7:58 p.m., before immediately adjourning again. The next City Council Regular Meeting is scheduled for Monday, May 13 at 6:30 p.m.
