Fayetteville City Work Session Recap – Nov. 6, 2023

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) -  The Fayetteville City Council met Nov. 6 at 5 p.m. in City Hall’s Lafayette Conference Room for the monthly work session to discuss matters relevant to the city with regards to their strategic plan. 

The meeting was called to order at 5:02 p.m. followed by the invocation, offered by Council Member Shakeyla Ingram and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.   

Approval of the Agenda

Council Member Shakeyla Ingram made a motion to approve the agenda, seconded by Council Member Derrick Thompson. The motion passed unanimously. 

Other Items of Business:

The City Council received City Council Committee’s Updates. After presentations by the Council Policies Review, Corridor, Stormwater, and Homeless Committees and discussion, council requested more information on various projects at future meetings. You can read more about these items here

The City Council received a Traffic Calming Measures presentation. After the presentation from Public Services and discussion, there was consensus to discuss this at a future meeting. You can read more about this item here.  

The City Council received a presentation concerning Every Town for Gun Safety. After the presentation by the Police Attorney and discussion amongst Council, there was consensus to gather stakeholders to discuss options as the issue moves forward. You can read more about these items here

The City Council received a presentation that discussed Airport Strategic Marketing Plan. After the presentation, Council discussed potential audiences to address to increase people who fly to and from Fayetteville Regional Airport. You can read more about this item here

City Council Agenda Item Request:

Council Member Deno Hondros requested Council to discuss the Solid Waste Ordinance, specifically on Yard Waste. After discussion, there was consensus for Council to direct City Staff to present a recommendation to council at a future meeting. You can read more about this item here. 

Council Member Deno Hondros requested Council to discuss Downtown Parking. After discussion, there was no consensus for staff to present any additional information on this topic. You can read more about this item here.  

Council Member Derrick Thompson requested Council discuss Sidewalks. After discussion, there was consensus to have the City Staff present to City Council what the sidewalk plan is for the City of Fayetteville. You can read more about this item here

The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
