County of Cumberland issued the following announcement on Feb. 28.

The Cumberland County Health Department, Cumberland County HIV Task Force, and  Fayetteville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are inviting you to join us in our #PreventPeriodPoverty campaign for National Women & Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD) -March 10th. This collaborative effort is a donation drive to raise awareness about the impact of HIV on women, and show support through collecting period product resources for women and girls.

While menstrual bleeding itself does not increase transmission risk, having resources to support menstrual health can make a direct impact on physical and mental well-being for women & girls. Our #PreventPeriodPoverty campaign aims to reduce the stigma associated with HIV infections and menstrual cycles for women & girls. Donated products will help ease economic hardships related to menstrual care. Items will be distributed to clients in need until supply is exhausted. Distribution will be through the Health Department and local community based organizations.

All product donations can be delivered to the Health Department at 1235 Ramsey Street, Suite 2200, from February 7th through March 10th.
