Scam Fraudulent Phone Calls Claiming that the Victim Has an Arrest Warrant | TOWN OF SPRING LAKE POLICE DEPARTMENT: (townofspringlake.com)
Town of Spring Lake NC Police Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.
Citizens continue to receive fraudulent phone calls claiming that the victim has an arrest warrant.
The scammer tells the victim that he or she can avoid arrest by making a payment, which may include purchasing a pre-paid card or gift card and then giving the card number to the scammer.
The scammer may sound convincing and use real information about the victim; such as real addresses; and real names of law enforcement officers, court officials, and federal judges to make the scam appear more credible.
Always Remember, Law Enforcement Will Never Contact Someone Via Phone To Advise Them They Have A Warrant.
