The Hoops and Dreams Showcase, a high school basketball event that provides the best high school athletes in the state a chance to exhibit their talents, came to Fayetteville State University again this year.
Recruiters and scouts from colleges and the NBA were on hand Friday and Saturday to see top high school hoopsters show off their moves.
"Every year we have had at least one kid that goes to the NBA and to be able to look back and to see they played in the Hoops and Dreams tournament actually means a whole lot to us,” event organizer Marva Lucas-Moore said in a WTVD report.
Nineteen schools from across the Sandhills and beyond were featured in this year’s event. Organizers noted that it's about more than just Xs and Os, it's about opportunities.
The Hoops and Dreams tournament has grown to be one of the top recruiting events in the country in only its fifth year. The event was also held in Fayetteville in 2019, with that year’s games being played at Methodist University.
