COUNTY OF CUMBERLAND: Candidate Filing Resumes Feb. 24, Runs Through March 4

County of Cumberland issued the following announcement on Jan. 17.

Candidate filing for the 2022 state and county election will resume at the Cumberland County Board of Elections on Feb. 24 at 8 a.m. The filing period runs through March 4 at 12 p.m. The primary election will be held on May 17, 2022.

The Board of Elections is in the E. Newton Smith Center, 227 Fountainhead Lane, Fayetteville. Candidates may file from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Wake County Superior Court granted a request from the State Board of Elections to resume candidate filing on Feb. 24. The court upheld a legal challenge to redistricting maps for the U.S. House of Representatives, N.C. Senate and N.C. House districts. Offices open for filing include the 4th U.S. Congressional District, N.C. General Assembly, Cumberland County Board of Commissioners (At-Large and District 1), Sheriff, Clerk of Court, District Attorney, District Court Judge, City of Fayetteville Mayor and City Council.

Filing fees are required for all offices, unless a candidate has submitted a valid petition in lieu of paying a filing fee, and the petition has been certified.  Visit cumberlandcountync.gov/departments/election-group/elections/candidates/filing-fees for more information.
