Hoke County Schools issued the following announcement on Oct. 28.
As you know, Hoke County Sheriff, Hubert Peterkin, passed away Friday evening. The funeral and visitation arrangements were announced earlier today and have been scheduled for this Friday, October 29. A large number of people are expected to attend the services, not only from Hoke County but from surrounding counties and from across the state. The influx of traffic in our community, especially on the east side of Hoke County is expected to be extremely high. Some roads may be closed and other areas will be difficult to access once the visitation and funeral begin. With over 50% of our buses traveling in this area of the county and for safety concerns, this Friday, October 29 will be a remote learning day for students.
