Hoke County Schools issued the following announcement on Oct. 2.
As you may be aware, there has been a Tik Tok challenge that has affected many schools nationwide, including several of ours right here in Hoke County. One of the viral challenges encourages students to vandalize or steal school property and then post it to the social media platform. The rumor now circulating is that there is a series of additional challenges beginning in October. Again, the idea would be to have students complete the challenge and post the video to Tik Tok.
We are reaching out to you to ask for help to stop this dangerous trend.
While some students consider this a prank, we take actions such as these very seriously. Should a student participate in any of these destructive or dangerous challenges that affect the safety and security of our schools, staff, or other students, the Hoke County Schools Code of Conduct and Consequences will be enforced. Because of the seriousness of these social media challenges, the students involved could also be referred to law enforcement. Above all else, we value the safety and security of our students and staff and these actions would not be tolerated.
Thank you for talking with your student to help them understand the serious nature of these dangerous, disruptive, and often criminal events. Working together, we can and will keep our school community safe.
