As the new academic year approaches, State Rep. John Szoka (R-Cumberland) said that he will continue to fight for higher pay for teachers.

Szoka's, who is running for re-election in District 45, also said that teachers deserve higher pay as a result of being innovative amid the COVID-19 health crisis in a Facebook post on Aug. 7. The Republican incumbent is facing a challenge from Democrat Frances Jackson.

“Our educators are currently pioneering an unprecedented learning environment across the nation and deserve to be compensated as such,” he posted to his Facebook.

Szoka said that he has consistently voted in favor of legislation to provide educators the compensation he feels they deserve.

“I worked to raise the average NC teacher salary to $54,000, and voted for every teacher pay raise since 2012,” he posted to Facebook. “I will continue to fight for improved teacher pay as your District 45 representative.”
