The Department of Public Health is packing hygiene kits for the homeless to help protect them against COVID-19.
Through the Fayetteville/Cumberland Continuum of Care, Operation Inasmuch, the Salvation Army and the Hope Center, the Department of Public Health is packing toothpaste, toothbrushes, towelettes, lip balm and handouts on the coronavirus to hand out to vulnerable population, such as the homeless, according to the Fayetteville Observer.
“These sanitation kits are a small way to promote preventative measures to stay healthy during this pandemic when social distancing may be difficult, as with the unsheltered population. During a pandemic, it is important not to share personal items and these kits are one way to provide access to personal hygiene items,” Public Health Director Dr. Jennifer Green told the Fayetteville Observer. “The educational handout outlines tips to stay well, COVID-19 symptoms, measures to take if you are experiencing severe symptoms and resources to get reliable, credible information.”
The Health Department and the Cumberland County staff are also finding ways to supply housing to the homeless during this time.
