City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Sept 17.

Clark Park, located at 631 Sherman Drive, will be the site of a maintenance project this week. Contractor T.A. Loving will begin installation of a new 24-inch force main within Clark Park. A force main is a pressurized sewer pipe that conveys wastewater.

The contractor plans to bring in pipe from the south end first, so it will actually impact the park area along the Norfolk Southern tracks on Tuesday or Wednesday. They will not stage the pipe across the Cape Fear River Trail and will ensure that their work area is cordoned off from the public.

Beginning Wednesday, they will start bringing in stone (used to support the pipe in the trench) and stockpiling that within the existing easement along the railroad tracks. This will not require a closure of the Cape Fear River Trail or the park. However, the public should use extra caution in this area.

Actual installation of the new force main is expected to begin the week of Sept. 23. Construction should last approximately 90 days.
