705 acres of Cumberland County and Hoke County farmland is owned by Chinese interests.

That’s according to a review of data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) data by Local Newspaper.

More than 789,000 acres of North Carolina land is foreign-owned, of which 49,050 acres are owned by Chinese interests, according to the USDA Farm Services Agency.

Smithfield Foods, and a billionaire named Sun Guangxin, through Brazos Highland Properties LP and Harvest Texas LLC., own more than 80% of Chinese-owned land in the U.S., according to NPR reporting based on USDA data.

In total, Chinese interests own 383,935 acres of land across the U.S.
