FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority (FMHA), the Urban Strategies team, and officials from the city invite Murchison corridor community members to review a grant application for the implementation of the Murchison Choice Neighborhood plan on Jan. 25 at Seabrook Auditorium located on the campus of Fayetteville State University at 6 p.m.

The Choice Neighborhood Initiative is HUD’s signature affordable housing program that seeks to rebuild distressed housing while simultaneously investing in the neighborhood, people and housing at various income levels.

The grant opportunity leverages significant public and private dollars to support locally driven strategies that address struggling neighborhoods through a comprehensive approach to neighborhood revitalization. The grant, which could total up to $50 million, will provide funds to implement a plan led by local leaders, residents, and stakeholders that will serve as a catalyst for critical improvements along the corridor.

The Murchison Choice Neighborhood Plan centers on revitalizing distressed public housing with mixed-income developments at the Murchison Townhomes and Elliott Circle sites, as well as homeownership opportunities throughout the neighborhood. This mixed-income and homeownership approach will increase the quality, amount, and affordability of housing in the neighborhood and promote significant neighborhood investment from the city, Fayetteville State University, and important institutions.

The Murchison Choice Neighborhood Plan is a collaboration between the City, the Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority, community stakeholders, faith-based organizations, anchor institutions and businesses.
