The average citizen might not understand the benefits of a new firehouse, but Fayetteville fire chief Mike Hill noted that they’ll reap those benefits if they ever call for firefighters.
“The biggest impact will be in the immediate area,” Hill said in a WTVD report after ground was broken this week on a new state-of-the-art fire station on Bragg Boulevard. “We’ll see a reduction in response times with 30-45 seconds in some areas beginning from day one.”
Cutting 30 to 45 seconds off of a response time could mean saving a house from more serious destruction, but it could also help when it comes to rescuing people before they are overcome by smoke inhalation.
The $9 million project will definitely help in the district the new firehouse will serve, but that will carry over to other districts too.
“Because not only will this district be able to respond to this immediate area quicker, but they’ll be able to respond to its other areas,” the fire chief told WTVD.
Fayetteville has grown in recent years, prompting the need for the new station, officials said. With construction underway, Hill expects the new station to be operational in approximately 16 months.
