County of Hoke issued the following announcement on June 17.

Hoke County Utilities have been notified that water utilities customers who are on septic tank are receiving letters to connect into county sewer system for $3,000 per sewer line.  County sewer is unavailable in target area.  In the event that you receive a letter, do not give your money to these scammers.  If you have any questions, contact Hoke County Utilities at 910-875-6704
