City of Fayetteville Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 10.

On September 12, 2021, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a residence on Melvin Place for a past domestic assault. During the initial investigation, the officers arrested the suspect, who was identified as Tyrone Michael Thompson (31 years old). Upon his arrest, Thompson was found to be in possession of a firearm, which was allegedly used in the domestic assault.

Due to Thompson’s recurring incidents of domestic violence, his extensive criminal history, and his gang affiliation, the Violent Crimes Task Force adopted his case for Federal prosecution. Thompson was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

On January 4, 2023, at the United States District Court in Raleigh, North Carolina, the Honorable United States District Judge Terrence W. Boyle sentenced Tyrone Thompson to 71 months of imprisonment within the Bureau of Prisons and 36 months of supervised probation to follow. This case was investigated by the Fayetteville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, an Explosives (ATF). Assistant United State Attorney Ethan Ontjes represented the government in this case.
