City of Fayetteville issued the following announcement on Dec. 26.

The Annual Grinding of the Greens Christmas Tree Recycling program is celebrating 29 years of protecting and enhancing our environment.

Through the partnerships of Fayetteville PWC, Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation and Duke Energy, the trees are collected and turned into mulch for the Fayetteville Community Garden and other local parks.

Starting January 9, our Parks and Rec team will begin collecting real Christmas trees from Fayetteville residents. City residents should put  their trees out for curbside collection before January 9. It’s important that all lights, ornaments, stands and trimmings be removed from the tree or the tree will not be picked up.

Residents who live outside the City or miss the pickup, may drop off trees at the Fayetteville Community Garden, located at the corner of Vanstory and Mann Street just off Old Wilmington Road  any day before January 21. PWC and DEP volunteers will grind them into mulch at the Grinding of the Greens the Community Garden on January 21, following a ceremonial start at 8:30 a.m.
